乗ってますか、通勤電車。
私は乗ってます、毎日毎日。（ちなみに阪急電車です。）
通勤でストレスを感じないという人は稀ではないでしょうか。
ほとんどの方は最寄駅から勤務先まで、ぎゅうぎゅうの車内で不快な時間をやり過ごすしかないでしょう。
何がストレスなのか。
まずはその混み具合。
始業時間に向けて沢山の人が同時間帯に移動します。都心であればあるほど、その数も多くなります。
また、たとえ座れたとしても隣り合う方の体格によって窮屈だったり…ということも。
そもそも座席幅とは。
最近の車両は、ひと座席ごとに区切りがついていたり、三人掛け、あるいは二人掛けごとに仕切られていたりして、以前に比べてかなり環境が改善された気がします。

どうやら、1970年代に一人あたりの座席幅は43㎝が適当となった経緯があるようです。

43cm、それだけあれば十分かなとも思いますが、やはり体格は人それぞれですから。
ましてや通勤時に手ぶらという方の方が珍しいです。
いわゆるビジネスバッグは横幅40～43㎝のものが主流です。これは座席幅とほぼ同じサイズ。
